A web developer I know sent me an email, asking my opinion on what hosting company to use for his client’s website.

His client is nearing 100k visitors a month with WP Engine.

He went on to explain that he was trying to save the client money;

in other words, she would now have to pay $2500 per year for hosting, instead of the $300.

I started thinking… “100k per month?”

“That should be a drop in the bucket, compared to what they are profiting.

So I asked him this simple question…

“Is she concerned about price or cost?”

Zig Ziglar explains the difference perfectly in a story that he told about his son and buying him a bicycle.

As the story goes, Zig had bought his son a bike based off of the price.

The bike was cheaper than the name brand model.

But what he found was that it cost him more money for that cheap bike, than what he paid for it.

Because things kept breaking (handlebars and pedals are a pretty big deal when teaching a 6-year-old how to ride a bike).

Furthermore, he found that It costs him less money cumulatively for the more expensive bike.

And I believe he said that he actually paid double the price for the cheap bike than he did for the more expensive one.

But you get the idea.
